Great Classic Adoptee Stories

“Hugely entertaining…marvelously light footed” —The Times
“Larkin’s narration of the classics is contemporary and easy to hear…listeners will be captivated from the first sentence” —AudioFile Magazine
AND Alison’s own autobiographical novel about an adopted English woman who finds her birth parents in the US.
Dear Listener,
At the heart of each of these classic stories is an adoptee with an indomitable spirit who becomes the heroine (or hero) of her own life, despite all odds. Narrating these stories showed me that the bravery it takes for an unwanted orphan to forge her own path in life was as great 150 years ago as it is today. Classics are classics for a reason and it always makes my day when I hear from people connected to adoption who are relating so strongly to these audiobooks, listening, they tell me, while they drive, garden, work out or even clean their kitchen!
Fashions change, technology moves on apace but human nature remains the same. Like the main characters in these classic audiobooks, adoptees and kids in foster care today must bravely overcome odds that are often stacked against them to create a life they love.
If you listen to my novel The English American which was based on my own adoption and reunion, you will understand why I was so affected by all of these stories – and why I was so thrilled when several of them won awards. I would love to hear what you think if you do get a chance to listen to some of these classic audiobooks. And then, perhaps, it will be time to tell YOUR story!
With warm wishes to you all, always,
Alison
